NARRATIVE: READING ALOUD TASK FOR GRADE NINE

Hello .. hello… Nice to meet you again in this section. How is your life? Hopefully you are all in your best condition.

Ok guys.. before we start the meeting, please click the attendance link to make sure that are present in this virtual meeting.

In this meeting let’s us develop our skills in reading a story. I hope that your skill in delivering a story will improve. To do that, please do the following steps:

  1. choose one of the two stories that you’d analyzed last week. But, if your story is too long, you can choose other stories you like most (fables, legends, myths, fairy tales, folklores, etc).
  2. Read the sory aloud. Make sure that you have enough exercises in doing it. You can ask me or other sources if you find any difficulties in pronouncing some difficult words.
  3. If you think that you have already well-prepared, you can record your voice while you are reading aloud the story. You may record using Whatsapp voicenote or any media.
  4. send your recording to me in my Whatsapp or telegram number.

If you have any questions related to today’s task, please ask me in our English Whatsapp Group.

Reviews on Narrative Texts

Hello, everyone… How is everything with you so far? I really hope that you are all fine.

First of all, let me give you the materials that we will study during this term. Baiklah anak-anakku, kita mulai dengan membahas materi apa saja yang akan kita diskusikan bersama selama semester genap ini.

There are three materials:

  1. Narrative texts
  2. Report texts
  3. Song

Ok. let’s start from the beginning. In our last term, we have discussed a little bit about narrative texts. Now, we will discuss the texts again. Let us recall what we had discussed before. You have read the story of Sangkuriang and The Golden Star Fruit tree last month. Now, it’s time for us to search other narrative texts. To remind you about the texts, please find out two narrative texts from the internet. You can take a story from other countries or a fable or a folklore from Indonesia. Then, please analyze the two stories based on the Orientation (setting, characters, which one is the antagonist and the protagonist), Complication (the conflicts/problems arose among the characters), Resolution (how the characters solve the problems/conflicts, the end of the story) and also the moral value. Submit the results of your analysis in my Whatsapp/Telegram. I’m waiting for your works soon (not more than 3.30 p.m)

In this section, we will discuss about Procedure Text on Manuals. Remember, in our last section we had talked about Procedure Text on Recipes.

Okkay, to know more about manuals, please take your English book and open it on page 71-72.

Here are the tasks that you have to do for the activity:

TASK I: translate the text of HOW TO COOK RICE on page 71-72. Write down the task in your English notebook.

TASK II: Answer the questions based on the text above

  1. What is the goal of the text?
  2. The purpose of the text is … .
  3. What things do you need to do the process?
  4. There are  …  steps in cooking rice.
  5. What do you use to measure the rice?
  6. What do you do after measuring rice?
  7. How long should you soak the rice?
  8. What should you do in the third step?
  9. We should …  in the fifth method.
  10. What should you do at last?

  1. Based on the information, read the text of HOW TO MAKE DELICIOUS FRIED RICE please write down the characteristics and the structure of the text (silakan tulis di bukumu tentang ciri-ciri dan struktur dari teks cara membuat nasi goreng yang lezat seperti yang telah dicontohkan)
  2. Read the fourth chapter on your English book (This is How You Do It on page 53-68). Translate (terjemahkan) the procedure texts NOVEL APLLE PUDDING (page 55) and ICED FRUIT COCKTAIL WITH CONDENSED MILK (page 56). Write down in your English notebook.

There are two themes: 1. Purpose/Intention to do something

2. Agreeing/disagreeing

(ada dua tema yang akan dibahas, yaitu Ungkapan Tujuan Melakukan Sesuatu dan Ungkapan Setuju/Tidak Setuju)

Let’s begin to discuss the first, the purpose or intention to do something.

Read the explanation about the material and do the exercises there.
